Phone masts run on batteries. In an extended power cut those batteries run down, and mobile signal goes with them — which is exactly when people need to call for help.
Neither page below is live. Cloudflare Pages serves static files only; the project's polling engine is Python and runs locally. The national view is a frozen snapshot taken at 2026-09-02 23:08:39 UTC — the incidents on it were real at that instant and have almost certainly been resolved since. The scenario view is an invented storm over real power-cut fixtures captured on 10 August 2026. Each page repeats this at the top of itself.
101 real unplanned power cuts across 6 of the 8 UK distribution networks at the moment of capture, with the mast-battery reasoning for sample areas and an explicit list of the regions the feeds could not see. The two absent feeds are named rather than silently treated as zero.
The deterministic offline demo: a made-up storm warning over real power-cut fixtures captured on 10 August 2026, run against a scenario clock of 2026-08-10 01:30 +01:00. The storm is invented because no Met Office warning was active at capture time.
